Almond trees flower early in the spring making them a symbol of new life. This painting was a gift for Vincent van Gogh’s newborn nephew. The boy was born on 31 January 1890 and he was named Vincent after his uncle. Van Gogh was delighted to hear the news: ‘It does me, too, more good and gives me more pleasure than I could express in words’.

He painted the blue sky very precisely around the branches. The detailed digital print on the finest leather show how many different shades of blue he used, making this wallet a true art piece.
